Coach's direction

The read — what they did

  • Everything came from Isaiah's RIGHT side of the goal.
  • Two looks, both from the top-right: either X feeds a cutter up top on the right, or they dodge and shoot from the top right.
  • Every shot was low — most were bounce shots that hit 3–4 feet in front of the cage.
  • Personnel to watch: #11, #14, #4.

Defense

  1. Stop chasing past GLE. Quit running below goal-line-extended — instead establish a strong crease slide.
  2. Crease defender shuts down the right side — kill the activity where every shot came from.
  3. Be ready for the cutter up top on the right. That's the feed; jump it.

Isaiah

  1. Be verbal — run the defense by name. You see the whole field, so direct it loudly:
    • Don't chase behind GLE — call it off: "[Name], don't chase! Get back in!"
    • Call the man on the crease — "[Name], man on crease — body him!"
    • Call the slide to the cutter — tell the defender when to go: "[Name], slide! Cutter top right!"
Always use the defender's name and tell them exactly what to do.
  2. One step forward, higher arc. Don't sit deep against the pipe — step up and take away the shot.
  3. Block the right side: body inline with the pipe (not against it, not too deep) — just take the shot away on that side.
  4. Be fast on the left step. Right side is shut, so they'll shoot the only side you leave open — explode left.
  5. Higher arc = you catch the bounce lower. Every shot bounced 3–4 ft out; the higher arc gets you down to it.
  6. Stay still. Don't anticipate. Watch it all the way to the bounce and play off the bounce.
